Apple agrees to pay $50 mn to settle flawed ‘butterfly’ keyboards lawsuit

A group of MacBook users in 2018 filed a class action lawsuit against Apple for a controversial butterfly keyboard, accused that the new design failed when even small particles of dust accumulated around the switch.

They accuse that the company hides the fact that the butterfly key is vulnerable to failure.The lawsuit includes those who bought Apple MacBook with a butterfly keyboard in seven states: California, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, and Michigan.

Apple then launched a better keyboard design at the end of 2019.After the $ 50 million agreement was approved, those who replaced many keyboards could expect a maximum payment of $ 300 to $ 395 and people who changed one keyboard could get $ 125 and those who replaced the ‘Caps’ mat’s mat, reported CNBC.

The law firm Girard Sharp LLP and Chimicles Schwartz Kriner and Donaldson-Smith LLP can claim up to $ 15 million from the fortune of $ 50 million to cover legal costs.Apple has extended four years of free key repair for customers who buy macbooks with butterflies.
